Ben Rowe wins a PASS South/National thriller at Motor Mile Speedway

The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models returned to Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia on Saturday, May 28th, for the first time since the inaugural race at the track in 2008. This time, the event also marked the second PASS National championship race of the season. After 150 laps of grueling competition, Ben Rowe edged Jay Fogleman at the line to win his first series race of the year, making six different winners in six races this season in PASS South competition.

STEVE HEATH TAKES SPORT-FOUR SERIES EVENT

Mike Hopkins makes it 3 for 3 in Late Models

Steve Heath of Milo outlasted a determined but disappointed Bradley Norris of Ellsworth to take the win in Saturday night’s Varney Agency Sport-Four Series event number one. Heath started on the pole by virtue of winning the qualifying heat and swapped the lead with Norris several times as the duo raced side by side for the first 16 laps. Heath took the lead for good on lap 17 as the pair went inside and outside while overlapping a slower car. In his haste to catch back up, Norris spun his car out of second place in turn four of the 28th lap, and ended up third after 2010 champion Keith Ogden of Holden slipped by into second as Norris recovered from the spin. Fourth went to Mike Heath of Brownville with last week’s winner Jay Robichaud of Eddington finishing in fifth. The remaining order of finish was 6. Becky Elston, Carmel,7. Ralph Allen, Hermon, 8. Joshua Grant, Carmel,9. James Johnson II, Bucksport,10. Ryan Kennedy, Holden,11. Roy Hathorn, Brownville 12. Bradley Dolan, Winterport.

Ryan Ripley “Ripping up the track”

Ryan Ripley a 3rd generation race car driver is once again taking on Maine’s Toughest track, Unity Raceway.
Ryan won the 2010 Super Street Series championship at Wiscasset Raceway. This season he is looking to bring home the “Flyin 4’s” championship at Unity Raceway.

Ryan is off to good start with a win in the 09x on opening day at Unity Raceway. “The last 5 laps of the race we had our first restart, I took off, but I was late taking off , she (the car) started breaking down on me but, we had another restart with 2 laps to go.” Then on the final restart the 09x was able to take the lead, “We took off, I was side by side with the 71 and he missed the shift, I took the lead and was able to hold him back.”

Drizzle and fog cut Beech Ridge opener short. Cameron and Bean beat Mother Nature.

Scarborough Maine- Drizzle and heavy fog cut short the opening night of the NASCAR Whelan All American Series at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday night. The Road Runner and Wildcat feature races were able to be completed and the Pro Series and Sport Series features will open up the show this coming Saturday night starting at 6:30.

The Road Runner division took to the track for a 20 lap battle and Dave Cameron found victory lane at the conclusion. Shawn Brackett led the opening lap before Cameron took over on lap 2. Cameron stayed in front despite a lap 18 caution flag to take the win. Brackett was second with Ryan Phillips third. Ray Letellier and Taylor Lampron were fourth and fifth.

PASS South gets back on track this Saturday May 28 at one of the country’s finest short tracks, the ultra fast Motr Mile Speedway, just outside of Radford Virginia. The Motor Mile race is round two of the six race PASS National Championship battle, and series President Tom Mayberry has colaborated with the speedway to offer up a special thank you to Motor Mile and PASS South fans.

Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, enters NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition when he races in the season-opening event for the Pro Series division at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, May 28. Doiron, who has a career-best PASS North Series finish of fourth at the track in 2010, has never competed in a 40-lap weekly event at the track. It will be his second time out this season with a car that made its 2011 debut at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Wilkesboro, N.C., early last month.
