Three former Oxford Plains Speedway ACT winners Randy Potter (02NH), Shawn Martin (94ME) and Ricky Rolfe (51ME) race for position during the 2012 season opener at Lee USA Speedway.
Waterbury, VT— The American Canadian Tour heads to Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME for the Oxford 150 next Sunday, May 20. For most teams, it serves as the fourth point counting event on the American Canadian Tour series and the last long distance event before the legendary Oxford 250. For a few, it is a return home.
Turner, ME’s Shawn Martin will be making the trip to Oxford in an effort to claim his third ACT victory. His resume at Oxford Plains Speedway stands out with two ACT victories, 11 weekly feature wins, and a 2004 Track Championship. Ricky Rolfe of Albany Township, ME is a multi-time champion of Oxford Plains Speedway and also owns two ACT victories at the track, most recently in 2008.

THE STORY
BERWICK, Maine – Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, will try and win his second consecutive PASS North Series race to open the 2012 season in the Star 150 at Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., on Saturday, May 12. Doiron collected his first career victory last weekend at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and did so in dominant fashion, winning the SouthernMaineMotors.com 150 by a final margin of victory of more than 6.9 seconds. The driver of the No. 73 JBJ Machine/Dale Shaw Race Cars Chevrolet considers Star Speedway his favorite stop on the PASS North circuit, and he won there in a Late Model event in 2008.

Numerous championships represented in season opening event
WINCHESTER, NH — Stock car racing fans around New England will be greeted with some of the most recognizable names in Pro Stock racing when the Granite State Pro Stock Series begins the 2012 season at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH for the David’s House 106 presented by Fenton Family Dealerships.
Barry Gray of Belchertown, MA will head the list of the recognizable line-up of drivers participating in the David’s House 106. Gray is a multi-time track champion at Monadnock Speedway and a champion at the former Riverside Park in Agawam, MA. Gray was in contention to win the inaugural Granite State Pro Stock Series event last year before being involved in a late race incident.

Maggie Ferland of Auburn, Maine is doing double duty this season, racing go karts at Richmond Karting Speedway as well as the kart track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
RPM. What do you think of the go-kart track at NHMS?
Maggie. I loved it because of the steep hill & the speed.
RPM. The go kart track at NHMS is unique in the way the track is designed; you have to drive up a hill on the front stretch and down the hill on the back stretch.
Maggie. The track is “Awesome” at NHMS. I wished they had more races on the upper track, the hill was awesome!

Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar (37VT) celebrates his first of back-to-back wins to open the 2012 season.
Waterbury, VT – On Sunday, May 6 Brian Hoar of Williston, VT relinquished the American Canadian Tour point lead to Dover, NH’s Wayne Helliwell, Jr. Helliwell dominated the second half of the Spring 112 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on his way to his first ever ACT victory, while Hoar struggled early and came home 11th. The finish seemed uncharacteristic of Hoar, known for his eight American Canadian Tour Championships and “ice cold” driving style, but uncharacteristic hardly describes the historic run that was shattered on Sunday.

Waterbury, VT – Speed 51.com, a racing news publication, has chosen Fort Kent, ME’s Austin Theriault and Barre, VT’s Nick Sweet as two of the top 51 short track drivers in the country in their “Speed 51 Short Track Draft.”
Theriault, coming off a third place finish at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on the American Canadian Tour, was chosen as the 41st best driver in the country. Speed 51 touted the young star saying, “Talented and consistent in different forms of Late Model racing,” and, “Theriault has been turning heads all across New England for a few years”. Theriault beamed with pride at the news.
