HOPKINS BACK IN 95 LATE MODEL VICTORY LANE

HOPKINS BACK IN 95 LATE MODEL VICTORY LANE

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins returned to victory lane in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 Saturday night to celebrate win number 8 for the season. Hopkins took the lead on lap 3 of the 35 lap race and finished 10 car lengths ahead of second place Ryan Deane of Winterport. Hopkins fourth place finish last week, caused by a tire going flat, was made worse for a while by his disqualification during a post race inspection for an allegedly illegal shock absorber. Following the inspection by track officials, which was contested by Hopkins and his crew chief, track co-owner Del Merritt took the suspect shock to a professional to have it checked. The professional judged it to be within the rules, and the disqualification was revoked. Hopkins finish and points were restored, and he remains atop the standings with 4 meets left in the season. Deane Smart of Bradley fought his way to a third place finish, followed by Dale Swoboda of Hermon in fourth and Bangor’s Jesse Smith in fifth. The remainder of the finishing order was 6. Don Alexander Jr. Carmel, 7. Nick Jenkins, Brownville, 8. Donnie Blanchard, Bangor, 9. Greg Ellis, Hermon, 10. Duane Seekins, Stockton Springs, 11. John Kalel II, Orrington, 12. Alex Waltz, Damariscotta, 13, Brenton Parritt, Steuben, 14. Shane Clark, Winterport. Seekins and Swoboda won the night’s qualifiers (more…)

DEANE SMART TAKES SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

DEANE SMART TAKES SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

Speedway 95In a night filled with close finishes, Deane Smart of Bradley led the Late Model feature from the pole to the checkers, but had to outrun the field through two restarts to do it. The first caution came on lap 18 when Dale Swoboda of Hermon and Wayne Parritt of Steuben came together in turn 3, spinning Swoboda out of fourth place. Both drivers were sent to the rear of the field for the restart. When the green flag flew, Smart outraced Winterport’s Ryan Deane to maintain the lead until lap 29 when Donny Blanchard of Bangor, Alex Waltz of Damariscotta and Ajay Picard of Palmyra spun on the front stretch, bringing out the second yellow of the night. That time Smart outgunned Steuben’s Brenton Parrit when race resumed, and held the lead to the checkers. Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs started last in the 11 car field and worked his way up to take second from Parritt in the final to laps. Parritt finished third, with pole sitter John Kalel II of Orrington fourth. Wayne Parritt recovered from his trip to the rear of the field to finish fifth. Sixth went to Swoboda, with Hermon’s Greg Ellis in seventh. Eighth went to Picard, Waltz was ninth and Blanchard finished tenth. Ryan Deane was credited with 11th, the only car not competing when the checkered flag fell. (more…)
