Scarborough, Maine – 15-year old Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine competed in the PASS North Series SLM division, finishing 11th in the Southern Maine Motors 150 at Beech Ridge Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, May 3rd. Lanpher won the first heat race and started from the pole. Lanpher also won his heat race and led 30 laps at this same event last year to become the youngest racer ever to compete in a Super Late Model at Beech Ridge and in a Pass North Race. He also is the youngest ever to win a heat race or to lead a feature event. On Saturday, crew chief Jason Ricker instructed Lanpher to drop back at the start and just ride to gain experience. Lanpher fought a ill handling race car and was unable to make a late race charge as was planned.

West Haven, VT – Devil’s Bowl Management has announced the postponement of the ACT Spring Green 114 originally scheduled for this Sunday, May 4 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. The event has been postponed due to saturated grounds and unfavorable forecasts for this weekend.
The event will be rescheduled for a later date that will be announced as soon as it has been determined.
The American Canadian Tour heads next to Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh on Saturday, May 17 for a 100 lap event. It has now become the third event on the nine race 2014 ACT Schedule.

Wayne Helliwell, Jr. Wheels His Way to Merchants Bank Win
Barre, VT – Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH used a cross over move on Jimmy Hebert with about 15 laps to go to claim his first career Thunder Road win in the 16th annual Merchants Bank 150 on Sunday, April 27. Hebert held on for second while 17 year old Emily Packard came home third.
Hebert led for the majority of the event after taking the lead on lap 26 from his third place starting position. He held off two former Thunder Road Late Model Champions in Nick Sweet and Derrick O’Donnell in a fierce battle, while protecting the low lane. With just under 20 laps to go, Sweet and O’Donnell made hard contact on the backstretch, bringing out the ninth caution of the event. Sweet would be done to the day with front end damage, while O’Donnell returned after changing a flat.

Oxford, ME – DJ Shaw and the #60 Precision JLM Racing team started their season off strong two weeks ago with a big win down south in the “Easter Bunny 150” at Hickory Motor Speedway and were able to follow that up with a strong run in the Pro All Stars Series North season opener this past weekend. Shaw fought up front all day and came home with a hard earned third place finish at Oxford Plains Speedway. The race was delayed a day and took the duration of Sunday to run due to constant rain in the area.

“I have to thank PASS and the Oxford Plains staff for doing what they could to get this race in tonight, I think we had a car to win,” Shaw said after the race, “We were just riding for most of that race waiting for the end but we couldn’t get the right moves through traffic, but we had a great car and I’m happy to bring it home in third to start the season.”

Oxford, ME – Joey Doiron and the #73 Wild Willy’s Burgers team kicked off their 2014 northern campaign at Oxford Plains Speedway for the Pro All Stars Series North season opener. After fighting the handling throughout practice, the team made gains on the car going into the races and he drove to a hard earned eighth place finish at the end. The race was postponed from Saturday after constant rain plagued the area over the weekend.

“We fought a tight car for most of the day and that hurt us during the race, I was doing all I could to save the tires and if things would have gone the right way at the end I think we could’ve gotten to the top five,” Doiron said after the race, “Thank you to PASS, Oxford and all the fans that stuck around to watch us race today, it was a long day for all of us with the rain but I’m glad to get the season started with a top ten finish.”

Patience; that’s what was stressed to Emily Packard during the 16th Annual Merchants Bank 150 this past Sunday April 27tt and did it ever pay off. In only the second race of the American Canadian Tour season, Packard took her time, picking her way through the field and drove her 9X Northstar Fireworks/Packard Fuels sponsored car to a third place finish.

“The race went absolutely awesome, I couldn’t ask for a better day,” said Packard on her podium finish. “To be able to be racing up front with these guys that I have looked up for so long was amazing. I just tried to stay calm, cool and collected and keep us up front. “ Earlier in the day Packard started second in the first ACT heat and comfortably maintained that position, getting herself into the race so that the team could focus on preparing the car for the race.
