David Oliver and Jason Larrabee headline Beech Ridge winners

By Dan Walker

Scarborough,Maine- Some of the best racing in it’s history continues to be displayed at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, and Saturday night was a continuation of that as David Oliver, Jason Larrabee, Brian Caswell and Ryan Phillips all scored feature race victories. The NASCAR Pro Series 40 lap main event turned out to be a spectacular race as no less than 4 drivers battled for the win. Charlie Colby led the opening 3 laps before giving way to Chris Thorne. Thorne who was looking for his first Beech Ridge win, stayed in front as Scott Moore and David Oliver applied pressure to him.

The caution flag waved on lap 24 but on the restart Thorne shot back to the lead with Moore, Oliver and Bill Rodgers all right behind. The final caution on lap 28 set the stage for the dazzling finish as Thorne again went back in front with Oliver second. Thorne stayed in the high groove and Oliver took the low groove and for the next 10 laps ran side by side for the lead with Bill Rodgers and Dan McKeage side by side for third and fourth right behind them. Thorne led lap 38 and Oliver led lap 39 setting the stage for a dash to the checkered flag. Exiting the final turn on the final lap, Thorne didn’t get the grip and Oliver did as he got to the finish line just inches ahead of Thorne for the win. Bill Rodgers nosed out Dan McKeage for third as McKeage extended his point lead with fourth. Mike Rowe took the fifth position.

JOSH ST. CLAIR TAKES LATE MODEL SQUEAKER AT SPEEDWAY 95

JOSH ST. CLAIR TAKES LATE MODEL SQUEAKER AT SPEEDWAY 95
A lap 28 spin by Jason Witts of Dixmont turned a choo-choo- train Late Model race into a seven lap shoot out with the top ten drivers jockeying for positions as they raced to the finish. Josh St. Clair of Liberty had led from the drop of the green, through a restart on lap 3, until the caution flew for Witts’ spin. On the restart, Ryan Deane of Winterport, who had been following St. Clair while fighting off a persistent threat from Steuben’s Brenton Parritt, out gunned St. Clair and took the lead for two laps. St. Clair went to the bottom and worked his way back past Deane, retaking the lead on lap 30. It wasn’t easy for St. Clair from there though, as Parritt followed him past Deane and challenged him for the lead over the last three laps. St. Clair held him off, as he passed under the checkered flag with Parritt’s bumper next to his door. While this was going on, Bangor’s Doug Day, who had spent the entire race on the inside groove working his way up one car at a time, also sneaked by Deane to take third. Deane finished in fourth with Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs finishing fifth. St. Clair also won the division’s 15 lap qualifier, putting on the pole for the feature.

Bill Whorff wins first Beech Ridge Motor Speedway feature

Scarborough,Maine– Since joining the ranks of Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Pro Series drivers in 2009, Bill Whorff has seen his share of struggles trying to get around the Scarborough oval. Whorff found himself in the right position on Saturday night to take advantage of circumstances and drove to the victory in the 40 lap NASCAR Pro Series event. Gunnar Josselyn led the opening lap of the race but on the second go sround Josselyn bobbbled exiting turn two and the whole pack of cars behind him started to pile up.

The end result was a 14 car wreck that blocked the backstretch. Bill Whorff was able to get through the crash unscathed as most of the field headed to the pit area for repairs. After a lengthy red flag to clear the wreck, Whorff bolted into the lead and began to open up a sizeable lead over the field. The remainder of the race was caution free asd Whorff sailed under the checkered flag a ¼ lap in front of second place finisher Scott Moore. Brad Babb was third with Dan McKeage and Trevor Sanborn fourth and fifth. Corey Bubar won his third Sport Series feature race. Dave Charest led some of the opening laps until Travis Buzzell took over at lap 13.
