A Re of Sunshine at Richmond Karting Speedway.

DSC_5293Driver of the #10, Kate Re of Lovell, Maine has just finished racing the regular season at Richmond Karting Speedway. Kate took the checkered 5 times throughout the 2013 race season at RKS. “The highlight of this season was winning as many races as I have and learning to be a better driver.”

In the last points race of the season Kate moved up to the Box Stock Series. Starting the race mid-pack, Kate was able to make her way to the front, then with after a late caution Kate took the green flag going 3 wide to take the lead and drive on to the checkered flag in her in inaugural Box Stock feature race. “I moved up to Box Stock for the rest of the season to practice for next year. I didn’t expect to win but I was very excited when I did.”

High Performance Racings Cam

DSC_1042Cam Corbin from Farmingdale, ME is 13 years old and racing in Jr. Sportsman Division at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS). One of the reasons Cam enjoys racing at RKS is, “The high banks because you don’t have to let off.”

Cam has a lot of experience racing at RKS and knows how to get around the track: “Having a good line and knowing the track.”

Carter Patterson – RKS Defending Champ

Carter Patterson of Belfast, ME was busy all winter, but is now ready to go racing at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS). “I went snowmobiling, joined the track team, played intramural football, and worked shoveling snow.”

As a 2012 RKS Champion, Carter knows how to get his kart into Victory Lane. He explains, “The key to racing at RKS is the line you run, a good setup and motor.”

Like most drivers racing at RKS, Carter loves when the sun goes down, the lights come on, and as the green flag gets ready to fly. “I prefer racing under the lights because it seems faster and the track is more fun to drive.”

Curtis Anderson – Unrestricted

Curtis Anderson of Richmond ME is racing in the Unrestricted Class this season at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS).
Curtis had a lot of success at RKS and knows how to get his kart into victory lane. He explains, it’s “being patient, running a good line, having total support from my parents and sponsors.”

Even though there are no night races this season at RKS, the majority of the drivers love racing under the lights. Curtis adds, “I liked the night races better it seems like your kart runs faster and the difference in the track.”
After each practice and heat race, you will see the karts in the pits and the race teams taking off the tires and putting a heat gun and scrapper to them. I asked Curtis what the purpose was behind cleaning the tires. He said, “They stick better to the track.”

Connor Wenners – Hard Work and Good Fun

Connor Wenners, of Edgecomb, ME is racing in the Jr. Sportsman Series at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS). Racing at RKS is always a great time for the driver, race teams, and fans. Many of the drivers are good friends. As Connor explains: “All the friends I’ve made. This will be the 5th year that I have raced with some of them.”
Kart racing is where most drivers learn the fundamentals. According to Connor, he learned, “Running a good line, staying low in the corners, and watching out for wrecks.”

Connor had great success racing at RKS. This season, he wants to broaden his horizons and experience other race tracks across New England: “I am going to be racing at a few other tracks this year, because I am finally old enough! I love racing at Richmond, but it is fun to challenge myself by trying new tracks. I have already raced at Londonderry Speedway once and am going to go back. I am also going to race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Route 106 Race Park, and Pomfret Speedway.”

Kate Re – Racing with Heart

Kate Re of Lovell, ME is one of the new Lady Young Guns racing in the Jr. Sportsman Series at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS). RKS is a popular, family-oriented track where fans can watch and cheer on their favorite driver. After finishing her race, Kate had this to say: “I LOVED racing at RKS, it was fun. I like the banking and the straight ways.”

Last race season, Kate raced karts at Oxford Plains (OPS). I asked Kate how does RKS compare to OPS? Kate replied, “I like the straight ways because they are fast. RKS straight ways are longer but both are fun. I only raced at Oxford four times. I like RKS a lot more. The pit area is better at RKS and you can bring bikes. They also have a playground.”
