This past weekend the drivers returned to the race track, and with names like Benjamin, Rowe, and Lachance, driving as fast as they could go. But it is not quite what you think, this is the next generation of drivers Kaleb Benjamin, Noah Lachance, Gunnar Rowe, and Braxton Rowe as they race in the kart series at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS).

10 yr old Levi Lawrence, from Mechanic Falls, Maine is one of the young guns racing at Richmond Karting Speedway. Racing in the Boxstock Division Levi, is currently 2nd in point behind fellow competitor and friend Austin Teras.
The Levi says the key to getting around RKS is, “being smooth in the corners and not jerking it.” Not only does Levi race the car he works on the car in the pits as well, changing the tires. The Karts had raced the day before Levi finished 2nd behind Austin, So I asked him is it his turn to win today? And Levi replied with a smile, “Yep”, and that exactly what he did taking the checkered flag for the 3rd times this season.

My kart was really good today. It was a little loose in practice but nothing my crew couldn’t fix for me. After finishing last in the heat race my Dad and Uncle Buck knew we needed to make some changes in the setup for the feature.

Steve Perry the host of Mainely Motorsports TV, is always telling you the news from the race tracks here in Maine and through out New England but, this story is about his daughter Alicia. Unlike her dad she is very shy and quiet, though once she’s behind the wheel, her performance on the track tells the tale.
She got her start in racing when her dad took her to a indoor kart race, “I really liked it so I asked my dad if I could try it and, I really liked it.” Though she lets her dad do all the work on the car as his role of crew chief.

Most drivers get their start in racing by driving go-karts then moving up to Allison Series Racing or Legends cars, before moving on to race in Late Models, Pro Stocks or even Modified’s.
Austin Teras, is the driver of the #29 Cushman Competition go-kart. He is competing in the Boxstock Series at Richmond Kart Speedway (RKS). The Boxstock’s series is the third tier of racing go-karts at RKS, the drivers age are from 6-11 years old. This is the 1st division of go-kart racing, where the drivers race for points.
